I completed my medical training at Nottingham University in the UK and I am currently a Research Fellow in Health Informatics at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. I am also completing a PhD in Health Informatics at the University of Otago.

Before joining the University of Auckland I worked for the UK NHS (Gen Med, Gen Surg, Orthopaedics, Urology, Health Care of the Elderly, Endocrinology), Capital Coast Health (Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery), Cambridge University (Anatomy Demonstrator and Tutor at Trinity College) and as a Lecturer in Health Informatics at the University of Otago.

My research interests are Medical e-Learning, Web 2.0, Electronic Health Records Standards and Mobile Computing. I am co-author of the RSM Press book ‘The Doctor’s PDA and Smartphone Handbook’ and have published 8 refereed journal articles and 14 conference presentations.

I have organised a series of workshops on mobile computing for the Royal Society of Medicine in London as a member of the RSM Young Fellows Executive Committee and I’m a member of the Medicine 2.0 and ISHIMR academic programme committees.

I’m presently the co-chair of the International Medical Informatics Association Web 2.0 taskforce. I’m a peer reviewer for the Journal of Internet Medical Research and I am the Associate Editor of the Journal of Health Informatics in Developing Countries.

I also own an e-learning development company called New Media Medicine Ltd. NMM produces 3D biomedical animations and e-learning courses. We also operate an open-access online community for medical professionals which now has over 46,000 registered members.
